| Visit Guest BookADAMS, Worthington Miner Worthington Miner Adams, 89, of Rye, NY, and formerly of Farmington, CT, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday (April 8, 2010). Affectionately known as Pop-Pop by his children and grandchildren and Worthy by his friends, he was the son of the late William H. and Mary C. Adams and spent his childhood in Cedarhurst, NY. Married in 1949, to the artistic and beloved Anne Backus Adams (deceased, October 8, 1997), they lived happily and formed many fond friendships in Syracuse and Newburgh, NY, Shaker Heights, OH, Lawrence, NY, and Farmington, CT. Pop -Pop's love of nature and the outdoors led them to design and build a home in South Londonderry, VT, where he spent countless hours working or walking in the woods. He was predeceased by his sister Mary (Molly) L. Adams (September 9, 1999), an accomplished actor who lived in NYC. Pop-Pop leaves his four children and their families. Linn Adams Seidensticker, her husband, Brad (Palm Beach Gardens, FL) and their children, Timothy, Anne and Kristin, Mimi Adams Lines and her husband, Steve (Bedford Hills, NY) and their children, Samuel, Peter, and Henry, Worthington Miner Adams, Jr. (Clearwater, FL), Cecil Backus Adams, his wife, Jill (Bloomfield, CT) and their children, Hannah, William, and John. Educated at the Lawrence School in Hewlett, NY, he then graduated from the Phillips Andover Academy in 1938 and Yale University in 1942. He has been a loyal member of St. Anthony Hall since those college years. Worthy was a passionate athlete and was on the Yale Varsity Lacrosse and Squash Teams, followed by years of competitive club squash and tennis. A World War II veteran, he was a Navy Lieutenant in command of the Sub Chaser SS 743 operating in the Pacific Theater. An economics major, his career in manufacturing included many years at The Eastern Casting Company, Newburgh NY, and Shaker Heights, OH, and a career at the Smyth Manufacturing Company in New York, NY, and Bloomfield, CT, as VP of Marketing and Sales and then President and CEO. He also worked in development for the Wilderness School, an alternative education program in Goshen, CT, and Miss Porter's School, Farmington, CT, where he coached lacrosse. He was on the Vestry at St. James Church Farmington, CT, and he was a long-time Corporator of Hartford Hospital. Pop-Pop was a generous philanthropist who supported over 50 different educational institutions, museums, land trusts, environmental groups and social service agencies. Our sweet Pop-Pop will be remembered for his honesty, loving nature, generosity, social conscience and loyalty to family and friends. The family wishes to make special note of the extraordinary loving care provided by Benne Konadu, assisted by Anthony Tachie, whose unique companionship over the past ten years was greatly appreciated by our father. We would also like to thank all of the doctors, nurses, and specialists at the Greenwich Hospital as well as Hospice of Westchester for their service on Pop's behalf. We are also forever indebted to The Osborn in Rye, NY, for providing a peaceful home for our Pop-Pop. As he taught us, we encourage everyone to give generously in his honor to the charity of their choice. A memorial service will be celebrated in the spring with notice to be made later.
