2640. Alexander Miner YORK

Became a lawyer.  In Civil War he enlisted in 92nd Ill Regt of Volunteers; 2nd
Lieut. of Co. L.  Served 3 years, 8 monthe, was 2nd Lt., 1st Lt., Capt. Lt.Col.
After the war, practiced law in Shelbina, MO; moved to Independence, KS.
Served as State Senator.  In 1874 moved to Ft. Scott, KS and engaged in nursery
business with father and brother Julius.  They built up the largest nursery
business in U.S..  Later he moved to Denver, CO where he worked with brother J.
H. York in colonization project.  They established LaPorte, TX and built
railroad line from Houston to LaPorte.

Daughter of Lyman and Hannah Preston.

Graduate of Univ of Texas Medical School; practiced at Moore, OK.  No issue.

Graduate of Rush Medical School, Chicago, IL; Civil War Asst. Surgeon; after
the War was a physician in Independence, KS.  Was murdered by the notorious
Benders who slew 8 people, bludgeoning them and burying them on their farm.
