At about 14 he became crippled in his left leg, and walked with a crutch. In Angolin [sic], Indiana, after he was married, he became a total cripple when his right ankle was broken. Then he lost use of his right arm. He was a shoemaker until he was totally crippled. Then he studied the jewelry business and became a clockmaker and jeweler.

"Luman A. Miner who was born in Sandusky County, Ohio in 1827 and died at his
home near Algona, Jan. 27, 1904, age 76 years, 10 months and 29 days.When a boy he moved with his parents to southern Illinois and it was there he
married May Jane Hayes in 1848.
To them were born seventeen children, eight boys and nine girls, eleven who
survive him. Thirty-five years ago he moved to Franklin County where they made
their home until about three years ago when the aged couple moved to Kossuth
County to make their home with their youngest daughter.The remains were brought to this place and laid to rest in the Hampton cemetery,
where the parents of the deceased are buried.Those who attended the funeral from away were Mrs. G. R. Miner and daughter Ada,
of Sheffield; Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Levitt, of Chapin; Wm. H. Miner, of Algona;
Gilbert O. Miner of Goodell; Harry S. Miner, of Earlville, Illinois and Charles
