SAMUEL MCCONNELL AUSTIN was born on 6
January 1794 in Grafton County, New Hampshire. He
was married first on 2 April 1816 in Grafton County to
Abigail Martin, daughter of Jirah Martin. She was born
in 1788 in Grafton County and died on 12 March 1825.
Samuel was married second on 28 December 1825 in
Grafton County to Mercy Miner, born 17 July 1799, the
daughter of Thomas Miner (b. 17 October 1776) and
Abigail Page (b. 24 October 1776, the daughter of David
and Rachel Page). [Notes: Mercy's grandfather Thomas
Miner was born 14 January 1735. He married Desire
Dennison, born 5 January 1739, the daughter of Avery
and Thankful Dennison. Mercy's great-grandparents
were Simeon and Hannah Miner. Reference: the Austin
family bible.] They removed to Pennsylvania for two
years, then moved west to Ohio in 1834. In early 1844
they moved to Aztelan, Jefferson County, Wisconsin.
They were not satisfied with the area and moved north
and west finding land west of Reeseville across the
crawfish river, buying most of the land from the U. S.
Government in 1846. Mercy died on 3 October 1855 in
Elba, Dodge County, Wisconsin. Samuel died on 6 June
1876 and is buried with Mercy in the Austin Cemetery in
Elba. Samuel had three children by his first wife and
seven by his second wife:
