Evelyn passed away Thursday evening, May 4, 2017 at Cartwright Hospice Residence. Age 93 years. She was born August 16, 1923 in Brant, the only child of George and Gertrude (Kidney) Griswold. In 1930 she moved with her grandmother to St. Charles where she had resided. Evelyn married Raymond R. Simon on September 12, 1940. He preceded her on January 20, 1980. Evelyn worked at the St. Charles Post Office and for Dr’s. Victor Brown and Frederick Lingenfelter. She enjoyed genealogy and was secretary for over 45 years for Huntley National Association. Evelyn was a member of the Thomas Wilbur Association, the Thomas Minor Society, and the Griswold Family Association. She was an avid reader and loved to sew, quilt, crochet and knit. Evelyn made over a thousand quilted purses. She loved animals and at one time was chairperson of Saginaw County Home Extension.
Surviving are her three children, Duane (Judy) Simon, Diane (Larry) Malone all of Brant, Donald Simon of New Lothrup; her best friend, Ernest “Bud” Schmiege of Chesaning; six grandchildren, Scott (Tammy) Simon of Romeo, Patrick (Cindy) Simon of Sebaka, MN, Aaron (Jessica) Simon of Bay City, Gregory (Erin) Malone of Ocklawaha, FL, Mark (Brooke) Malone of Chesaning and Keegan (Megan) Malone of Dimondale; 15 great grandchildren, Joshua, Tyler, Ethan, Galen, Andrew, Sonny, Noah, and Eli Simon, Spencer, Graham, Carlyne, Faith, Westi, Gunnar, Hollina Malone; two great-great grandchildren, Henry and Madeline and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her husband, parents and step-father, Samuel Williams.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Kendall Funeral Home, St. Charles. Pastor Mielke will officiate with burial in Brant Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Monday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Memorials may be made to St. Charles Public Library or Hartley Outdoor Education Center.
