Obituary:
Another of our staid old citizens was buried Sabbath 22d. A citizen whose life for sterling honesty and upright citizenship is worthy of imitation. I mean Josephus Hartley. He was in his eighty-fourth year. He has been actively engaged in farming and trading from boyhood up until within a few years of his death. Mr. Hartley was highly respected for his worth as a good citizen, as the large funeral procession fully attested. The body, followed by a long train of relatives and friends, was taken to the New Providence church, near Carmichaels, where religious services were conducted by Rev. Jaco, after which it was buried in the cemetery adjoining the church.
