Acil Myrl SMITH

Son of Henry Columbus Smith and Almira Dunlap.
Myrl was born in Humphreys, Missouri, on July 15, 1906.  In 1910 at the age of four years, his family moved to Glendon, Alberta, where he was raised.  In 1927 he went to Long Beach, Calif., and worked for Shell Oil before coming back to Canada in 1930.  At the time he began working for Harry Minor at the Drowning Ford Ranch.  Two yers later he married Harry Minor's daughter Edna, on December 28, 1932, in Medicine Hat. Together they began a dairy farm, Golden Valley Dairy Farm.  He was a member of the St. John's Presbyterian Church.

Funeral Services program:  Active Pallbearers: Stacey Rice, Tad Minor, Joe Minor, Aldon Minor, Tony Minor, Tim Minor, Jason Minor, Don Minor.  Honorary Pallbearers: Don Grant, Ray Foulston, Jim Murray, Al Wilson, Dr. Al Garden, Jim Miller, Doug Nerland.
Funeral services were held at the St. John's Presbyterian Church on Monday, July 27, 1998, at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. David Paterson officiating.

18194. Perry Arthur MINOR

Perry's early years until the age of eight were spent on the family ranch in the Sands Hills of Saskatchewan.  In 1917 the family established a home in Medicine Hat where Perry continued his schooling at Riverside School and Alexandra High School.  In 1926 he attended Garbutts Business School.  From 1927 on Perry sepnt his time between the ranch at abbey, the Drowning Ford and the MHR.  

Perry married Kathleen Bell on June 3, 1939, in St. John's Presbyterian Church, in Medicine Hat.  In 1941 the Drowning  Ford Ranch was annexed by the Federal government to become part of the British Block.  Following the war Perry had ranches at Alderson, Brooks and Bindloss, but it was the ranch at Bindfoss tha they called home from 1967 to 1992.  It was at that time that Perry & Kay made the house on Riverside thier home.  Perry was an active member of the Kinsmen Club, the Cypress Club, and a director for many years for the Western Stock Growers Association.  Some of his many interests besides ranching were trap shooting, fishing, ,playing bridge and poker.
