Clapp Miner's mother was unknown. He was reared by his "step-mother",
Mary "Polly" Merritt. From Feb.1835 to May 1839 he toured with a circus
or traveling menagerie. Among his effects were over 30 passports and visas
from various South and Central American countries. In the spring of 1839
he moved to the Michigan Territory and purchased a 480 acre farm, his land
being in the present-day location of Brighton Township, Kenosha Co, WI.
In 1982 his land is owned by his great grandson, Jack C. Staehle. He m.
1840 Sabrina Wyman and had one child.
Daughter of Samuel Mabie and Ruth Bolt.
Samuel drowned when he accidentally fell into a watering trough 10 Sep 1854,
age 5 years 5 months.
