Notes:  Walter Palmer was born in London, England about the year 1585, and came to New England about 1628. The name of his first wife, whom he married in England, is unknown, and this wife was the mother of Grace, born in England about 1608. Walter Palmer was a prominent man in both Massachusetts and Connecticut. He helped found and settle Charleston and Rehoboth, both in Massachusetts, and served as representative to the General Court of Plymouth, and also as selectman and other local offices. While living in Rehoboth, Walter Palmer was invited to visit New London, Connecticut, and help settle this new township, which he did. Walter purchased land and built a home in what is now Stonington.  Walter’s daughter, Grace, married Thomas Miner, and they were living in New London. At first, New London had jurisdiction over Stonington, which later became a township. Walter died in Stonington, Connecticut, 10 Nov 1661.
