In 1857 they moved west by covered wagon, settling in Iowa. Their first Howa home was destroyed by prairie fire, so they moved on futher west until they found a farm with a log cabin and barn which had been abandoned. They stayed there and made claim on the place. In their old age they moved to Pomona, California. He died of asthma.
She died of blood poisoning.
