315. Amos PALMER

Amos served in the Revolutionary War as a PVT in Col. John Topham's Rhode Island Regiment.

The Rhode Island State Troops- Formed in reaction to the British invasion of Newport in 12/1776, and remained in service through 3/16/1780. They were referred to as the Rhode Island Battalion with attached Artillery Regiment. Although their service was exclusively in state, they were on active duty in military campaigns.

There were originally two regiments of infantry (Colonels Crary and Topham being the longest-lasting leaders), and one of artillery (under Colonel Elliott).

The two regiments of infantry were combined into the Rhode Island Battalion under John Topham June 1779.

In the 1790 census, Amos appeared in Hopkinton, Rhode Island.

Between 1790 and April 1793, Amos & his Palmer family moved to Ashford, Connecticut where on April 6, 1793, Amos purchased 84 acres of land there.

Amos & family moved from CT, to Massachusetts, then to Brookfield, Madison Co., New York where he died.
